Building Curiosity, One Step at a Time
The toddler years are unlike any other stage of childhood. In twelve months, a child transforms from a baby who points and babbles into a small person with opinions, preferences, humor, and a rapidly growing vocabulary. It is an extraordinary time to be a teacher.
Language Is Everything
Language Development at This Age Is One of the Strongest Predictors of Long-Term Academic Success.
Our teachers are intentional language partners — narrating activities, responding to every attempt at communication, introducing new vocabulary in context, and reading aloud every single day.
We are not just watching children play. We are talking with them, responding to them, and building the neural pathways that will serve them throughout their education at Jeffco, DCSD, or LPS schools and beyond.
How We Teach Toddlers
Three Things That Define Our Toddler Room
Play as Learning
For toddlers, play is not the break from learning — it is the learning. Sensory stations, building materials, dramatic play areas, books within reach at every moment, and outdoor time every day the weather allows. Teachers observe play and use what they see to individualize each child’s experience.
Routines That Build Confidence
Toddlers thrive on predictability. Our consistent daily schedule — arrival, morning activity, snack, outdoor play, lunch, nap, afternoon activity, pickup — gives children the security to explore and try new things. Predictability is not rigidity. It is the foundation for growth.
Daily Family Updates
Parents of toddlers receive a detailed report at pickup covering activities, meals, sleep, and anything notable. A first word, a social breakthrough, a challenging moment — you will hear about it directly and specifically. We believe communication with toddler families needs to be frequent.
Developmental Focus
Everything in This Classroom Is Built Around the Specific Reality of a Toddler
Active. Curious. Easily overwhelmed. Deeply in need of consistency. Our classroom layout, routines, materials, and tone are all built around that developmental truth.
Your child is not following a generic script — they are being met exactly where they are.
